about

From Already Dead Tapes:

"My dad used to show me how to clean his boat. I was young and he was meticulous. I would watch on sunny days as he climbed from one part of the haul to the other, scrubbing with old dirty rags. Years have past since then and my parents made it through a messy divorce. In my younger eyes, I remember watching that boat getting cleaned, and it is hard to think now, of how much resentment the older version of me has towards the guy. In Marcus Rubio's “Land of Disenfranchisement”, it is the picking out of those fond young ages when we lived in moments of idealisms and then the growing and recognizing of dreams gone broken.

What starts out with a song written as a letter of introduction for what the album has to bring, then slowly moves into steady beats of upbeat songs with lyrics that invoke sarcasm and a simple “letting go” of the disenfranchisements that life has to offer. Lots of sweet melodies played over a large variety of instruments and harmonies. Adorable, creative, and very impacting for any listener who likes to simply put the headphones on and zone out the rest of the world.

Marcus Rubio has an incredible reputation in the music industry. To name some of his accomplishments, “in 2010, Rubio won the readers choice award for "Best Instrumentalist" in the San Antonio Current and in 2011, he won an ATAC Globe Award for best original score for his work on “The Bacchae”. And in regards to Already Dead Tapes and Records, we are more than pleased to announce the second release Rubio has on the label. With as much sincere joy as I can muster, I have to say that “Land of Disenfranchisement” is a good listen that you won't forget."
